The surface of InertSustain C18 is neutral as a result of advanced deactivation techniques, including endcapping of residual silanols to the utmost limit. Undesired adsorption and peak tailing are reduced to a minimun. InertSustain C18 works as a highly inert column for a variety of compounds and is able to elute them with sharp peaks.
Basic Compound;
The figure below shows that InertSustain C18 delivers highly stable chromatograms for qualitative and quantitative analysis even for strong basic compounds such as Berberine chloride (sample 4) and Dextromethorphan (sample5).
Acidic Compound;
As seen in the figure below, InertSustain C18 provides superior peak shape thanks to a neutral silica surface. Tailings, seen on other ODS columns for Brilliant Blue FCF (sample 1) and Salicylic acid (sample 3), are observed when the surface of the packing material is basic.
Chelating compound;
Chelating compounds (e.g. Hinokitiol) are adsorbed by binding with metal impurities on the surface of the sorbent and cause severe peak tailing. This adsorption is expected to fade away as injections are repeated for several times because the metals are getting masked by the injected samples.
The newly developed Silica gel of InertSustain C18 contains virtually no metal impurities. Therefore it is able to elute chelating compounds with sharp peaks from the first injection.

High Durability within a wide range of pH
InertSustain C18 is highly durable to acidic and basic mobile phases and can endure pH from 1 to 10.
As shown in the experiment below, InertSustain C18 maintained high efficiency and peak shape for 300 hours under alkaline condition while other brands’ “wide pH column” failed.
-
Reliable Reproducibility, Performance and Quality
InertSustain C18 exhibits outstanding reproducibility. It is produced under the rigorous quality control of physical properties and is strictly tested for inertness and selectivity.
-
Extremely Low Operating Back Pressure
The new Silica gel enables InertSustain C18 to operate with a significantly lower back pressure without sacrificing efficiency. As shown below, among many commercially available C18 columns, InertSustain C18 is able to operate with the lowest back pressure in the industry.
